Next time I leave the state, I'm gonna have to check a few menus.  Of course the problem is I'll only go into bars in Madison since they are smoke-free and that is where you can usually find fried cheese curds.

First, are people familiar with regular (not fried) cheese curds?  Here's a wiki link:

A fried cheese curd is just that -- bread it and toss it in the deep fat fryer.  Good stuff, but not good for you!

Beam -- you might want to check the frozen foods aisle of your grocery store to see if you can get them that way.  That would be for the breaded/fried ones.  We can get the fresh ones in our grocery stores (less likely for you) and I can also get ones that are just hours old at the farmer's market on Saturdays.  They are so fresh that they squeak.  It's hard to describe fresh squeaky cheese curds, but they are oh so good!
