Elections in England and Wales

Just read in the GUARDIAN:
Quote
Gordon Brown suffered a mauling today in his first electoral test as prime minister with Labour's national share dipping to 24% - its lowest level since records began in the Wilson era of the early 70s.
David Cameron's Conservative party took seats off Labour in the north of England, the south, and the Midlands.
With results available from 99 councils, the Tories were up 144 seats, Labour down 145 and the Liberal Democrats at a virtual standstill, up just 10.

Quote
In London, Labour had been buoyed in the early morning by the relatively large turnout in Labour areas, pointing out that the turnout in Hackney was likely to be 47%, a record figure and enough to put Livingstone back into power for the third time.
Will Ken Livingstone have a third term?
What do you expect?

I'm not happy the cons' have taken the lead, but glad that labour took a whooping.

They're being very slow about the vote-counting... have we turned into Zimbabwe overnight?

Business rules unfortunately... worldwide capitalism is causing grief everywhere as countries expand and suck in the output of other countries, bleeding them dry, and pushing up prices.
New Labour is just another form of Conservatism, there is little difference between them, and the Labour heartlands have at last started to see this, but many still vote as their parents and grandparents voted, so New Labour gets votes even though they care little of the original socialist ideals... if at all.
Brown/Darling gave, then took away, tax relief for many low earnings, now saying they cannot change the budget... but they did just that when they changed how they would tax ultra-rich non-doms.

This is true. Some of the biggest right wing nutjobs I know, would never vote for anyone other than Labour, purely because it's a family tradition. Idiots! It's a waste of time voting in my area, because no one else is ever going to get in.

Plaid Cymru hopes of holding on to Gwynedd, the one council it controlled in Wales were dashed.

Every time there is a council election, it takes weeks to find out who has been elected... once in they don't care about informing the voters...

yeah i've been checking that all day, just interested to see who won the local seat now, not that it makes much difference when the overall winner is labour

labour lost 12 seats, all the other parties gained some, including the conservatives which gained it's only seat!
