A Conservative MP has been told his own 12-year-old daughter has broken a social networking site's rules, during an inquiry into internet safety.

It dawned on John Whittingdale that there might be a problem when Bebo safety chief Rachel O'Connell told him the site operated an "over 13s" policy.

To laughter, the Commons culture committee chairman was told his daughter should not be on the website.

"I shall plainly have to go and talk to her," the MP replied.

I told Pol of this US rule, and she just laughed... and signed in as an 18 year-old...

Time to restrict her access to the PC, then.

I did... blocked the site... but next day she had another one... blocked that... but next day she had another one... blocked that...but next day she had another one... blocked that...but next day she had another one... blocked that...but next day she had another one... blocked that...

But she knows The Ghost is on her machine at home so is very wary of what she says and does... though access in school is almost unrestricted... and I've told them that several times..

Time to deny her access to the PC at all, then.  I've had to do that, several times, and they play up and have tantrums, but I will not be moved by such things.  Bebo is dangerous to kids.

my daughter is still banned from bebo and similar
but then with the two pc's in the living room (yeah it's cramped) she can't do much without me noticing anyway. Grin

they banned it in school too Grin
and i changed her pass so she couldn't log in anyway

I have told her that when i feel i can trust her on the web i'll allow her to use msn (like that'll happen anytime soon). So she behaves now.

If i couldn't trust her at all i wouldn't let her anywhere near the PC

It's irresponsible to let kids have a PC with net access, in their rooms, anyway.

Pol's biggest gripe... but I'l only give in when she's 18, earning and pays her share.

Whilst I'm the one paying for, and responsible for internet access and content downloaded, that's the way it stays even if they're thirty eight years of age.  I have a low opinion of children and their self-discipline.
