I seem to have the driver (4.1) installed but the machine can not see the modem to make a connection despite having the details right

Try removing the modem from the Device Mamager, reboot and it should find it... and the driver you just added.

I've got a Speedtouch modem, Fred.

I don't use it, though, coz I have a router.

I can rip the drivers off the CD, though, if you need 'em.

Maybe the Thompson website has them, too.

Not much good, if you can't get online, though...

Ta Kat. tried that one and no go.  however the driver I pinched from Tiscali looked exactly the same in install and it wroked.
