One of my compatriots started using RAM drives years ago, and now has tweaked a system that can address 6Gb of DDR2 667 RAM...  Shocked

It's a shame the RAM drive option vanished after Win3.11... or am I wrong?

He hopes one day to put Windows and all his programs into EPROM so that he will have an instant-on/ instant off PC....

He likes to twiddle with puters.... Roll Eyes

Funny, innit? I had that with my old Amiga. Good to see the IBM-compatible finally catching up in at least one area...

You can get a ramdrive with XP. Not sure how you'd do it, though, without TweakXP Pro.

This might help...

It might be a bit of a bummer, for me, coz I only have two gig of RAM.

did not the old PCW hold the lot in RAM?  I seem to remember loading the system into RAM and then the progs.  256 or 512k?

A ramdisk survives warm reboots, so you can boot straight into it, I believe. That was the case with the Amiga, anyway.

you can actually buy RAM drives you know..

connect them like a sata disk or so and it'll get displayed as a harddisk
I wouldn't install my OS on it though..

I did make a RAM disk with XP once.. installed a game on it too.. the game is a bit old.. already did run too fast but with RAM disk I had no loading times and matches vs computer were impossible to win.. I had been defeated by a massive army before I could click my first building  laugh
