and a yellow triangle on the sound device in device manager, tried uninstalling rebooting and getting new updates and it still doesn't work.

the device itself is fine as it works fine in linux. It's the XP drivers that are buggered.

Help please.

don't have the mobo cd, it is a really old puter that we bought 3rd or 4th hand

fixed now, thanks to Everest, took 2 attempts though.


Basically windows installed the wrong drivers, and kept wanting to install the wrong drivers, i had to uninstall and reboot a few times, while stopping XP from updating. Then use Everest to identify the device, and get the drivers.

  Get hold of a copy of System Information for Windows, Boss.  I really find it usefull, when tracking down old or lost drivers.
