Okay, hypothetical question here: if at some point in the future, a computer is ever proven to be self aware and concious in exactly the same way as a human being, with the same or greater degree of intelligence etc, would switching the thing off permenantly be morally the same as murder?

  Morally, yes.  Morals never stopped us bombing innocent people out of self interest though, did they?

if Vista would even be able to manage that much CPU's

it runs on Linux Wink

Naah.  Something that powerful is on a proprietary OS.

Of course, it's from IBM, so it probably runs OS/2...
