I know you all hate it but that is beside the point... is there any reason that it would just stop working on my computer? I can't get it to come up or load or anything - its not in the system tray... nothing.

That's odd! Have you got a disc or was it a download? Tried a reinstall?
I ditched mine. It was huge and it took forever to scan. I went to AVG Free.

Well... tried to uninstall so I could reinstall - it wont uninstall
I'm thinking of going free - what firewall do you use with AVG Mojo?

You may have picked up the same virus I had. It was nasty enough to take out EVERY anti-virus I tried... Try restarting into safe mode and uninstalling there. If it won't let you do that, you're pretty much out of luck, and a F&R is your only course of action.
As for what firewall to use with AVG free, the standard Windows firewall seems to work okay with it...

Izzy - there are virus's that stop stuff working
Can you do an online scan at all ??
Panda scan is a good one:
http://www.pandasecurity.com/homeusers/solutions/activescan/?
Is there anymore ODD behaviour at all ??
Are you a member of Our-local forums at all ??
Just their is a bloke there who is brilliant with security issues !!
It would be well worth you speaking to him before formatting and reinstalling !!
http://our-local.co.uk/index.php
(Lisa hope its ok to post the link here !!)
He would get you to run through a few things to find if theres any nasties hidden - honestly its well worth it before a format and reinstall !!
I have norton on 2 pc's and never had issues !!

Try
Jetico Personal Firewall.
. It's pretty good, and it's free. (It does require quite a lot of training, though.)

I've installed Comodo and AVG for the time being - AVG is currently scanning so we'll see what happens.
Personally, I think its probably this install of Norton. I've had nothing but trouble with it from the word go.
Seriously considering taking the computer to this computer guy Rich's Mum knows - things haven't been right since my system restore so yea

bring the pc to me, i'll fix it
i use AVG on my xp partition and rely on my routers firewall at the moment until i find one that i really like.
I do like sygate, but an old version that is probably worthless.

Shields Up doesn't think it's worthless.

We had this prob a while ago, (I downloaded a trial of norton 360) then bought the full version but I couldn`t get the trial off the machine in order to do a full fresh install
so I found this
http://service1.symantec.com/support/norton360.nsf/docid/2006112909122875?OpenDocument
and it worked for me
