nothing in the repository? i wouldn't have thought you'd have to go download anything from anywhere else.
what isn't working? things on the web or certain software?

*.bin files are normally compressed copies of a disk. Free programs such as ImgBurn will burn this to disk after expanding it?

http://linux.softpedia.com/get/Utilities/ImageBurn-9299.shtml

http://www.imgburn.com/

Although *.bin files or even *.jar files are how java holds compressed copies of files until they are needed....

have you tried going to a firefox plug in page... scarp that, didn't see anything useful.

ooo there is a new feature in this firefox for ubuntu
go to tools, addons, and in the extentions tab there is a link for "get Ubuntu addons" click that some goodies there, but nothing exceptionally useful.

What sites brains? and bin files are like executables on linux.

If you right click the file, click properties, permissions, and tick the box that says allow as executable...apply and close it, a double click should begin the process, normally asking you if you want to install this file kind of thing.

actaully my bt speedtester page seems to be stuck on test one.
Is it an I.E only site? or maybe even a windows only?

If java works here (smileys, shoutbox, quick edit) then java is installed in your firefox.

Better still, http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp go here click verify, it will tell you what version you have.

I have 6.3

Due to java not working on ubuntu I am back onto windows alone the quick way
I did this by doing the following:
1) used xp disc to wipe the ubuntu partitions
2) then rebooted and used the xp disc to enter the repair console
3) then used the FixMBR command
4) rebooted and here I am back under windows on its own
