o.k i'll try to remember a quick how to
you install wine (in the repo) then when you want to use a windows app, you right click and selcted "open with WINE" or "run with WINE" on the set up or .exe file it will create a fake c drive, which can be found at /home/USERNAME/.wine/drive_c that is where it will install stuff. (you may have to unhide files to see it, either through "View>> show hidden files" or ctrl + H)
Some wine proggies will be added to a subsection in your applications menu, but for some reason not all.. (haven't figured out why) to run from there just click, otherwise navigate to the wine directory and right click run with wine
If you need to configure wine, then type winecfg in the terminal window.. i found that a bit more complicated than it needs to be though.
give us a shout if you need more help and i'll try to sort you out.
it is possibe to create a shorcut on your desktop to run a set program with wine, so it would just be a simple double click.. but first step is getting wine to install stuff, then if the stuff works we can worry about creating shortcuts
