£1.54m for 'short break' carers
«

Children's Minister Jane Hutt has announced £1.54m to help volunteers to care to children with disability.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/6928226.stm
Unpaid volunteers instead of paid experts... and a nice earner for a few admin staff to overlook it all.
Respite care, even for a few hours, is like rocking horse doo doo around here, even though money keeps disappearing into the admin blackhole. Handicapped kids are being sent to Foster Homes if their carer-parents get ill or go into hospital, causing much distress to both disabled and carer alike.

Huh, that's big of them. Maybe if they stopped giving Tax Credits to folk who are having three foreign holidays a year, there'd be more money to help folk that really need it.

I bet this "new money" is not "new money" at all either.
The Parents Federation (carers getting together) has just lost lottery funding, and may soon lose minor government funds too. The PF do more for parent-carers than any other group, but admin in local government want that job... so that they can screw cash out of it and screw up the job.

...'cos the admin of the council want to do the job.... and get cash for it... whilst the PF use their income only for the building rent and utilities, phone and printing.... all workers are volunteers... and carers too in the most part.
Central , Wales and Council funding is being dropped to allow just that takeover.... and the lottery do as they are told with the funds they have.

PF was formed because the local councils couldn't do the job, or failed to advertise it to new carers so no-one went to them. Most local GPs and hospital doctors/staff know of the PF so pass on an invite to all new carers.... and PF then acts as a one-stop-shop for info, help, advice and documentation.
It's amazing ow many carers used to soldier on until they dropped, simply because they did not know help was available for free.....

Yeah, I know. My Sister and I plodded on with our Mother, when she was dying, with no help advice or support whatsoever. We simply were not told that any was available.

Same for us... even the hospital staff gave us no inkling that there was help available. I found out about DLA by accident in a DHSS queue.
