I`m not happy at having to `reward` some nowty little sods for things like sitting still and being quiet  Lips Sealed
I`d set something in place yesterday and told one of them that every time he disrupted other people, I would knock 5 minutes of time off something that he enjoys doing ...................and it was working a treat . I explained what would happen, he understood it and he only lost ten minutes of time whereas normally he would have disrupted half a lesson.

went in this morning and was told that it was far too negative and a reward system is going in place instead
well, I will do as I am told BUT I am cheesed off of seeing good kids get nothing for sitting still, listening and behaving  Lips Sealed

That sort of things winds me up too el.
Yes reward good behaviour by all means, but that has to apply to all kids, even the good ones that are good all the time. Yes it means the good kids get loads of rewards, but it's better than the bad kids getting rewarded for minor things while the good kids have to really strive for some kind of recognition.

It winds me up, when little johnny the school bully, brat and downright nasty little horror, gets to tell his mother how good he has been, and praised beyond all belief, while other children who are usually good get no recognition. Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry

See, I can`t for the life of me work out why it is not better to say when they are young that there is a consequence to an action and that if you do wrong, then you will lose a priviledge  Huh If you call someone a *^*&££$%£ , then you are going to get in bother . In fact, when you get to secondary school, then likely they will batter you  Roll Eyes But what this lot are in danger of learning is that you call someone a (&(^*&%^% , they complain but then you  say very sorry and settle down for a few hours and lo and behold you will get a sticker and a reward  Lips Sealed
One good child actually said to me today "where is my chart, I`m always good "  Embarrassed How do you reply to that  Huh

You tell them, "You don't need one, because you're not handicapped by being an attention-seeking little shit."

I'd wire some of Pol's classmates up to the mains and give them a zap every time they did something incorrect....

That is really sad El.  If my child was a little shit, I would have no problem with you enforcing something like that in your classroom, how else are they supposed to learn about consequences?

For my PGCE I am doing an assignment on Assessment, its about how students (of all ages) are assessed constantly to check that learning is taking place (even just glancing over to check they understand and are working is classed as 'assessment) ... anyhow at my last class I brought up the point about feedback and how students these days don't seem to get any - unless they are naughty!

Think about it, Child X is a naughty little toad who every time he/she does something good like sitting still for 2 minutes they get "Well done X thats really good!" where as Child Y who is always good, gets on with their work etc... never gets any praise or recognition.

Child Y may eventually feel that their work is 'no good' or that their good behavior is wrong as they are basically 'ignored' in class as the teacher is constantly aiming their attention at Child X.
Child Y will lack confidence in their work as they never get any spoken 'well done' for doing it, where as Child X will thrive the attention and so their confidence will go sky high - making them even worse!

Thats what my tutor said, he said that years ago education was run so much better as the teachers were allowed to 'teach', but now they have so much red tape to go through and paperwork with every lesson ... that takes longer than the actually lesson delivery - that its now stupid.

Another policy that is causing hell is lumping together "poor achievers" with "disruptives" and "special educational needs"... basically making classes that will never achieve anything... Pol has been stuck in one of these classes with no hope of moving up... even though she is brighter than many in the classes above hers.

Hopefully college will allow her to restart and shine....

When i was doing my course for becoming a nursery nurse (no really) i was in primary schools every other week as a classroom assistant. I was astounded by the sheer ammount of paper work the teacher was filling in, for kids who haven't even started proper reading yet. We're talking sheets and sheets for every pupil in the class.

It completely turned me off doing that kind of job and eventually i dropped the course. Undecided

These are who I support in college ... but the courses they are on are designed to help them onto higher level college courses or into work (of some sorts).

I teach one lad who cannot read or write - he is 17 and a complete pain in the arse, I know full when he will never get anywhere in life - not due to his 'disability' but to his attitude.
