A simple precaution of covering the keys with your other hand stops that, it's what I always do, or if you can move the keypad turn it sideways

Chip and PIN has been around so long in France that they have modified all keybords to be non-visible from anyone but the purchaser... but some bright kids can tell what number you enter by watching your hand movements... or they read your lips...

If you watch that BBC2 prog about conning people: they did a show about Card crookery: and one method was for one of them to gety a temp job in a shop, then when a customer buys anything they have a gadget that they plug ito the till which transmits your details to somebody nearby (in this case the Cafe next door).

They can then use your details to buy stuff on-line
