Energy bills 10% higher in Wales

Energy customers in Wales are paying up to 10% more than people in England, an energy watchdog has found.
Energywatch Wales said it was concerned that 270,000 households were classed as "fuel poor," up from 130,000 in 2004.

I put in postcodes from all over the UK into a comparison website, and I found that this is true... we Welsh are expected to pay more for gas and electricity.. with the South East of England being the cheapest by far.

Cheaper in the South East? I don't call £7 a month for electricity and £10 for gas, cheap

I am sure I do
Still doubt it is cheaper though. And if it was, then it would make a nice change
Looks like The North West is harder hit

I have pre-pay meters, that cost me ten pounds a week in electricity, and fifteen pounds a week in gas. I hardly turn the lights on, and only use the heating in the morning and at night.

Brownose is trying to get the energy companies to reduce the costs for "the energy poor" on prepay meters. If that's how he decides who is "energy poor" he should check our bills for a direct debit discounted rate!

i use a prepayment meter for our electric as it IS cheaper week by week, as you are more careful about what you use, as you can actually see what you are using, and get consequences of using too much too.
with DD you can get a sudden rise in the bill, and even end up in debt before you realise.
If i could do prepay on my gas i would!

Prepayment meters always charge a higher rate for power than a standard meter, especially with a landlord meter where it can be set even higher (big profits for the landlord).
DD rates also include a discount on top of the standard rate discount.
Paying by DD means the same payment every month, so no big shocks with the first bill of Spring, plus if you owe money at the end of the year it is added to the next year, but divided into 12 parts... and if you end up in credit you can ask for the whole lot back in one go, or reduce your bills for the following year.
I read and record my meters every week (have done since we first got a home) and this allows us to see what type of useage causes the big jumps in consumption.
Power companies love prepayment meters because they get higher returns even after paying for the payment system.
