Quote
In his invitation, Mr Bush said the US was "committed to collaborating with other major economies to agree on a detailed contribution for a new global framework by the end of 2008".

That's far more accurate, I suspect.

Don't get me wrong, here. Some of my closest friends are American.

Tehir view of "The world", though, stops at their own coast.

Unless it threatens them, in some way, of course.

Maybe the world should get together and cut off their oil supplies until they decide to play fair?

Hmm...  Pollution or global nuclear annihilation?

Oil is too strategically important to be allowed to be cut off.  We have gone to war over it, and there's no doubt that we would do so again.

And, despite the devastating cost to the rest of the World, there is little doubt that your Government has made you so internationally unpopular, that you would lose...

But at what cost?  Any unrestricted war fought directly against a superpower will end civilization, if not all life on the planet.

Would the rest of the world willingly commit suicide or let the US fall apart under our own obsolescence?

And just because you don't trust Bush doesn't mean he isn't sincere...  He's just trying to find a way to do it that doesn't destroy the US (and, by extension, the world) economy.

He's trying to find a way that is acceptable to his Businessmen bosses, more like.  That's what troubles me more and more about the US...  It constantly flaunts itself as the World's greatest democracy, but it's Government runs it like a business.  And whilst there are certain aspects of every Government that have to run like a business, there are an awful lot more that are dangerous to do so.

Better a business than the New Soviet Union that the Democrats want.  I swear, a lot of them are truly to the left of Marx and Lenin... and they're in the back pockets of the unions and environmental nuts, so it's lose-lose, no matter who is in charge.

Oh, I don't know.  It hasn't done us any harm.  (What's that, Officer?  You want to give me a ticket for wearing a Black jumper that may be offensive to ethnic minorities?)
