I just found out my lovely Dad Jack died on 15th February. He was 78 and had alzheimers and it was no surprise really, and I tell myself it was best for him - but I'm furious because my stepmother had him buried without telling anyone last tuesday and I only found out last night.

I had a suspicion she would do that, and I had asked the care home to phone me if he died - but apparently She was there when he died and vetoed it! Due to "data protection" they couldn't call me even though they might have wanted to (I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt because they were a good care home and he was comfortable there) as she is his next of kin and not me. Now I'm left with a bitter taste and a family who don't know what to do next (I'm the eldest of his 5 children - he has 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren too) without going to confront her. We don't even know where she had him buried - is there a way we can find out?

Right now I hate Her totally (not that I ever liked her anyway) and everyone at home is creeping round saying how sorry they are for my loss and behaving like I should be crying. I blubbed for about 30 secs last night and now I just have steam coming out of my ears!

OK I'll get down off the soapbox now....

 soapbox

Sorry about that! Had to get it out somewhere, sorry to shout..... I'll go and sit back in the corner and brood silently....

You could ask a local funeral director if they know how to find out where someone was buried ??

As you are his daughter, I am sure they the info you need is available to you, just need to find out how to get it. The registrar for births marriages and deaths will be able to get you some info, but that won't tell you where he is. Won't the nursing home tell you where he is buried. I don't think the data protection act would cover anything like that?

And GIANT HUGS!!! what an awful way to find out. Kiss

Thank you all for the hugs and advice. Good ideas there - I know the area to start the search - and I'm off work next week so there'll be a dust trail to the West Country on Tuesday..... with me at the front end!

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss No2 and also of the way that your stepmother has handled it all.  I hope that you are able to find some answers.  We're always here if you need to have a rant and let it all out huggle
