Politeness is almost non-existant these days... even Tesco checkout staff asking "Do want want help with the packing" is false and strained...

There's a lot of disrespect. Not surprising, when our supposed leaders respect nothing but image.

We lost our manners with our acceptance of American popular culture. Now, we all think we're automatically entitled to respect, without reciprocating said respect. It'll get worse.

We now have several generations where parents have, for all these reasons, not handed down the basics of good manners to their offspring.
It is difficult to see how there is any way to restore courtesy without a major shift in public attitude, and that it is not a sign of weakness to say "please".
