A twice-weekly limit on chips as well as a ban on chocolate could be brought into schools, as part of an £8.4m Welsh Assembly Government initiative.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/south_east/7106674.stm

Read that again..... £8.4m... just to tell school dinner providers to provide less salt and chips, more fruit and veg, and to ban the sale of chocolate and crisps....

And that's could... it's not definite yet...

Huh

I suppose the advertising bill is massive? Huh

Doesn't that already happen? Does at Emma's school, has done for the past year.

I switched her to school dinners as I was running out of 'healthy' ideas for her lunchbox ... she got fed up of carrot sticks and nutty bars, she wanted crisps and jam sandwiches !!

So now she has school dinners, costs a fortune but at least she eats well and enjoys her lunch.
She also likes Friday as that is 'chip' day (fish & chips).

It's all down to devolution, only applies in England at the moment as Wales and Scotland make their own decisions in educational matters

I don't think it was advertised here - we were just 'told' the new rules from Emma's school in a letter.

Same here.  One day all the kids were at school for dinners, the next, they were all in the Chip Shop.   laugh

Our local schools have ALL banned children under 15 leaving school grounds during lunch breaks (so they can't get to the chippy or sandwich bar), and has now banned parents bringing-in packed luches at midday too (the kids were banned from bringing their own packed lunches ages ago as the school had nowhere to store them at "correct temperatures".... what's the correct temperature to store a bag of crisps and a few biscuits?).

I used to walk home at lunchtime and make a hot meal for myself and my 2 brothers, but now the lunchbreak has been reduced to 45 minutes, there would not be time for that, and hardly any time to be served, and eat, a school lunch either!

That's the commonest complaint from my lot.  If a Teacher's feeling a bit spiteful, they'll keep the kids hanging back a few minutes, knowing there will be neither time, nor decent food left for them.
