I had a letter from the twins' school yesterday:

For the day of the teachers' strike years 8,9,10 will NOT attend school, years 12 and 13 WILL attend school, but year 11 WILL ONLY attend lessons according to a timetable yet to be verified.

As the twins are in year 11, I expect either a full day of school or no school at all, but the Head just called back to say that his provisionary timetable has them in school 10:15 to 11:15 and 1:15 to 2:15.

School meals will not be available, neither will their transport.

I told the Head that, in these circumstances, the twins will NOT attend school that day... he was livid....

I don't blame you.  If they can't provide a full day's education, then they shouldn't bother.  Half the time, the Bimble's kids spend all afternoon watching DVDs.  Not educational ones, either.

As if teachers didn't get long enough holidays already, at my lads school the staff take extra days off at the drop of a hat - - he'll be home that day.

psst-  they're not holidays, they're recovery time after 65 to 70 hour weeks.  most of the 'holiday' time is spent preparing stuff anyway.

dont know what you do and not asking either.  care to swap for a month? Wink

you might guess what I do (hope not did) for a living.  If the doc allows I will return to it as I like the job despite all the hassle

I work in engineering, moving heavy lumps of steel around, often for 60+ hours a week,

and yes I'll happily swap for a month,

anytime between  June  and September would be quite convienient for me Grin

If only they'd stop interfering with them, and let them teach the kids...

If only they'd stop interfering with them, and let them teach the kids...

YEP!  things went down the pan withthe national curriculum.  it meant we had to spend more and more of our time changing courses rather than teaching.  They got rid of the SATS here and replaced them with a burocratic nightmare that no one understands yet despite numerous 'training' days where the trainers had their heads so far up their A55 that even they did not know what to expect.  In between the 'training' and the submision of evidence that as we understood they wanted  they had moved the goalposts so that no one satisfied the requirements.
