Check to see that you can still walk out of town, and that there's not a big glass wall, sealing you in.

I'm back to getting pizza leaflets.  They're no fun.  You can't draw beards and moustaches on pizzas.  It's silly.

yep
no hoops to jump through or anything
one place did require that I email them a copy of my driver's license--wasn't a big deal

guns are a different story--can order online but they have can only ship to some that has a FFL (Federal Firearms License)-- you pick up from them and have to go through all the paperwork/background check

No mail at all for over a week, which suggests one of three options.

  1) I'm dead, but just don't realise it.

The best rate for the past few years has been the local Credit Union that doesn't have a rate per se, just an annual bonus that has been about 4.5% gross.

It seems one of our 2 councillors resigned as a councillor and member of the Labour party due to their "sexist" attitudes.

So that means a vote in 28 days time for a new councillor.

Smart bus card (hope it works) Seems I can top it up online rather than keep finding the cash for it. Last time I got on the bus with a £20 note for a £13.50 weekly bus pass, you would have thought I had mortally offended the driver! He pointed to a sign that said correct change only. Well, it`s not always possible to do that . He said he had no change for it and I would have to get on the next bus. So I had to and complained .............mutter mutter mutter ..........ars*eh*le..................mutter  ::) and it was raining!

This was quite a few years back and I still had our staffie. Got really farcical as he then asked me to go and look again or pay him 50p . Cheeky get.  He raised his voice so I opened the door to the dog . He left and I have never had one of their crappy books since  ;D

People living in Wales can also use their passes to travel free on cross-boundary journeys in and out of England, providing the journey starts or finishes in Wales.

So does that mean I can take a bus to London for free?

Letters from our GP asking the twins to go for an Annual Health Review.

They've never had one before? ???

I suspect, strongly, that it's to do with ESA, and HMG is trying to get them off it.

Their GP told them that he has received forms to complete for ESA for both of them, also other forms for DLA to PIP claim change. As they do not see specialists for their conditions it falls on him to provide an accurate report on their conditions.

The lad's ESA assessment form arrived this morning.

Bank statement... on a Bank Holiday weekend. ???

You know how slow the post is - I expect they posted it on Monday! ::)

2 parcels collected from the sorting office. One from Canadian Tudor Rose all the way from Canada (lots of Timmy's coffee, yum!) and one the dress HoN has bought for me for my 2nd son's wedding in July. When he ordered it, it was 2 sizes too small. I tried it on today. It's a tad tight, but some walking and exercise to get rid of the tummy should correct that. And it looks fantastic!  :D

Oh, and the council tax bill. :sigh:

PPI application form. Found a company that does them really cheaply for public service and military personnel. I could go it alone but I can only go back as far as I can remember - they reckon they can go back to the sixties, so as most of my PPIs were in the 90s, decided it would be worth a try. My work colleague got £17k! Apparently in our job, we should never need a PPI, so any we have can be counted. Fingers crossed!

New council tax bill  :-X
Title: Re: What's in your mail?
Post by: Tāf on March 09, 2017, 18:48:42 PM
Rent bill.

Someone in the council has brains at last.

We can only pay in cash or by Standing Order.

But Standing Orders mean the money is taken for the 3 No Collection Weeks.

So at the end of the year we have to claim back those 3 weeks (around £450) and the process takes a month or so.

This year they have taken the total payable for the 49 weeks and divide it by 52, so no overpayment.

BUT... their computer system sees it all as underpayments until the final payment, so it has to be programmed NOT to send out arrears notices automatically.

Will it work?

Title: Re: What's in your mail?

Council rent rates changed a few years ago. You pay the same for a 3 bedroom wherever it is in the city. Council and Housing Association rents are being lifted to catch up with private rents. Around here that is around £750 per month, so £185(ish) per week, but posher areas go way beyond £300 per week.

Buy-to-let vultures are the main cause for the price hikes, but that is supposed to calm down with the new budget measures.

Hmmmmmm!  The lovely people at ESA want details of his pension annuity.  Details they already have. But they want to know if he has an increase as it will affect his ESA.
Honestly it drives me insane. A farty 30 a week annuity that he worked all his life for. We already lose out on all benefits because he provided for our old age.
Too young to retire so he has claimed contribution based ESA. He gets that because he worked 46 years. But they would like him not to have it because he saved and paid in.  :-X

Title: Re: What's in your mail?
Post by: El on March 10, 2017, 18:55:18 PM
Oh. Well I will amend my post and calm down a little.   ;D
it just seems sometimes like there is a person who sits there saying "make it difficult. If they get that, then we want it. Make them get their pensions (which we class as savings) then we can deny benefits. Make them look after their health and then we can put them in a home and have their savings and house. And, if we play our cards right, they may suffer problems with stress due to us bombarding them with paperwork. Just carry on.....They will give up trying to claim anything"
Just being cynical.

DWP letter to confirm the lad's PIP, but no dates for payments.

The tribunal awarded him to Feb 2022, but the DWP gets around that by starting the paperwork for renewal a year before it ends.

With this letter the missus can now reclaim Carers Allowance, hopefully backdated for the whole period and not just 3 months as the DWP has tried to do.

Formal notification that the 2 local GP surgeries near us are to close in November, with no applications received to take them over.

Another practice will run the one near us on a temporary basis, so that means:

A change of phone number
Scripts to be requested at their office not our own local one at least 7 days in advance IN PERSON ONLY
They will be open 8 to 5 Monday, Tuesday and Thursday but only 8 to 12 on Wednesday and Friday
All students have to register elsewhere
Vaccinations, Pre-and-Post Natal clinics, minor surgeries, diabetic clinics, and blood tests all referred to the local hospital

One of the GPs legged it back to her own country after allegations of professional misconduct were raised, another is being prosecuted for financial irregularities, and one has been declared bankrupt.

"We are not part of the Cardiff Out Of Hours Service, so if you have a medical request out of hours please call NHS Direct who may direct you to your local Casualty Department".

PIP rates from April. Phew! Thought it was the dreaded prove you are I'll annual pantomime from ESA.

The DWP has been leaning on the ESA assessors recently to get them to review more cases. But the ESA assessors say they are under prior orders to clear the backlog of new cases. So the DWP has said they are to coordinate with PIP and if PIP has reduced or stopped any awards, ESA must be reassessed ASAP.

They should work hand in hand in the first place  :o
Why should anyone have to prove to both agencies by sending copies of the same information twice?
I know there are abusers of the system. They need stamping on. But some people are not going to improve;  they are the people who need protecting. The last thing they need is to have no faith in the person assessing them.

I read recently that several hundred of the clothing bins that appear in carparks have been stolen, and placed without permission in other car parks after being "rebranded" to an iffy charity. The real charities are furious but bugger all seems to be done about it.

A letter about carers allowance and stipulations about informing them if he goes in hospital or a nursing home and how much I can also earn if I work too.
By my reckoning, there is about half an hour a day that I could go to work. It's fine; I just won't have a shower.

Also a survey on anti social behaviour.  Can't say it's too bad except the litter around here lately is terrible.  Most of it dropped from cars with take away food just dropped on the floor.  :o it's vile. Plus we have no take away round here for miles.

Around here you can tell how long/how far peeps take to eat McD by the distance of their litter from the outlet

When I started using In'n'out for the annual car service and MOT, it was £99 plus free valet.

2 years ago it went up to £128.

A letter today says it's now £188 and no free valet.

Time to look elsewhere.

Yeah, I think they are taking the peepee. Especially when you consider it's mostly an oil filter and oil change. With extras for air filters, spark plugs, etc. And every year they try to make me use synthetic oil at a much higher price despite it not being good for my car.

We've had a few lately, all offering to extend the 1 year guarantees to 5 for almost 60% the cost of a new one. What they don't tell you is that they can write off equipment due to "spares difficulties" and just pay you a lump sum worth a pittance.

Council gas safety check notice.

With a few twists this year: they will want to see gas safety certificates under a year old for all other gas appliances including fires and cookers, plus for any chimneys or vents they are attached to. Plus any gas hoses have to under 5 years' old and changed by a "competent" person.

Failure to give the engineer access will mean a £50 charge.

Failure to allow access on the second visit will mean a fee of £127.56 for lock-breaking and replacement.

And only 12 days' notice!

Only for NHS issues. His private one cost over £2k a few years ago, with a promise of free batteries, service and repair for life. But now the agent is not replying to phone calls or letters since he moved to a new Newport office. The manufacturer says he has the franchise, has had his cut of the profits, so is responsible for it all.

Quote
You're currently on our Standard tariff which means the maximum a supplier can charge (known as the cap) is set by the energy regulator, Ofgem. To recognise the changes in the costs of supplying gas and electricity, Ofgem have raised the level of the cap, so we're increasing our prices to reflect this.

This means that the projected cost of your gas and electricity will increase by £141.21 a year from 1st April 2019.

As the cap is reviewed every six months the next review will be in August 2019 with any changes coming into effect in October.

So I lost the big discount for DD, now this? How is this supposed to help consumers? That's over a 12% rise!!

Various parts for HoN's new camera. He's bought a new one in preparation for our "holiday of a lifetime" to the USA in September. He's confessed to spending £200 on a fish eye lens, saying it's cheap at half the price of normal. He says it's to take photos of the Grand Canyon. Any excuse...

Hi there,
I'm just wondering why your packaging is so hard to open.
Specificaly the 18g Coconut Chips foil bags.
At 6ft3in, even I can't open them by tearing, and have to resort to
scissors.
So no good when I'm out and wanting a snack.

Hi
Thanks a bunch for getting in touch , although I’m so sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
I’m so sorry to hear you have found our Coconut Chips difficult to get in to. We have received similar feedback and I have just spoken to our packaging development manager who is currently looking in to ways of improving this. We hope that the new, easier to open packaging will be on shelves by the end of this year. Unfortunately we can’t make it any sooner than this as we need to use all the packaging that we already have as we wouldn’t want to waste it since we care a lot about the environment and it would be incredibly wasteful.
Thanks again for your feedback on this matter Graham and keep your eyes peeled for our new improved packaging later this year :)
Best wishes and bye for now,
