Title: Food sizes on
Post by: El on July 13, 2017, 09:53:16 AM
Is it just me who keeps getting conned with this?
Chocolate bars are smaller but creep up in price. But the thing that really gets me is veg packets. I am stuck to mostly online shopping so I can't really see the size of the package.
I used to get casserole veg in a pack that was big enough for two lots. Now it's repackaged in a small carton but the same price.
The Chinese chicken drumsticks used to be good But now smaller amount and watery.
3 for 2 veg - not enough in the pack, six tomatoes, in one Pkt.
3 for 2 fruit - 3 small limes in one pkt

Meal deal of finest cottage pie - 3.50 each or 2 for 5 quid - so small that we will have to have one each so no bargain.
I might have saved a few quid on paper but these are tiny portions.

And they blame it on Brexit, and the value of the Euro, but the Euro has only changed a little, not the huge amounts they claim.

Incidentally, it's happening all over Europe too.

Just happened again! I very often have a cup of hot chocolate in the bath to escape a bit. Got some sachets of different flavours. They used to be good...One sachet to a big mug. Nope. Not today...One sachet to a tea cup  ::)

I refuse to buy such things. Seen the size of Toffee crisps? They're smaller than they were, when the "Fun size" bars first appeared.

Milky Ways are about the same size as blackjacks and Fruit salads used to be.

I also notice the con where buying the big packets actually works out more expensive has caught on.  >:(

Mars bar: how many different sizes are there? I counted at least 9 in one shopping trip. with price per 100g varying a lot.

Meat and potato pies used to be quite big. Meat pies were smaller.
Yesterday I put one of each on a plate and the only way I knew which was which was the crimping on the pastry  :o And they were individual wrapped so I had no idea till I opened them .
They need to stop this obsession with wrapping everything in foil sellophane and card pretending it's for freshness but actually it's so you can't see the size of the item.

I always check the price per 100g these days. Own brand is  not always the cheapest, either!

ASDA Ready Cooked King Prawn Flavour Tails

Last month 200g £1.10

Yesterday 170g £1.20..  more like "shrimpies" than "prawnies".. but their website says still 200g

That's a 29% increase in price! Brexit? No, they are made in India....

Sounds like they'll be part of ASDA's rollback in a couple of weeks, they have been caught putting prices up before Rollback before

They stuck at £1 for years under the original brand and now own-brand. I can't leave a comment on their site as I already left one last year... to say how variable they were.

Waitrose isn't as expensive as you'd imagine, especially as they don't seem to go in for this kind of shenanigans.

I like Waitrose - we had a good-sized one in Ashford but Medway doesn't have one - our nearest is now in Allington (part of Maidstone) and it's tiny and expensive - the good deals never seem to appear there so I gave up shopping there.

I've noticed the ridiculous prices nuts are this year too... in every supermarket! Three quid for a small pack (200g) of mixed nuts just because 5% of them have been sprayed gold? No thanks! Good job I'm working all the bank holidays this year! If we're very lucky the Management will buy our section a tin pathetic plastic container  ::) of Celebrations to pass round the 50 of us that are working on Xmas Day (which has happened the last 3 years - I remember when they used to buy us all a bottle of plonk each!  :-\ ).
