Now, I wonder why people fly-tip...?

A friend got a knock on the door from council bods just before Xmas. A bill with his name and address was found amongst fly-tipped stuff. He has no car, or driving licence, but they said that he must have paid someone to take his rubbish away. But if they fly-tipped it, it was still his responsibility.

He had to go to court to plead his innocence. His lawyer was able to prove that other papers found at the same time did not come from his home.

Case dismissed, and it was suggested that whoever is doing the fly-tipping may be collecting documents from innocent households to "seed the waste to distract investigators".

So shred anything you bin (or recycle) that has your name or address on it!

We tend to do that, anyway, as Jane's a bit paranoid, what with the privacy aspect of her work.

A letter from the Council:

"Tree leaves, including those from street trees, are NOT to be put in the green garden waste wheelie bins. Tree leaves do not compost quickly and therefore act as a contaminant. Either put them in your general waste black wheelie bins, or take them to the recycling centre and place them in the tree leaf containers. No plastic bags allowed".

We get to put out a small wheelie bin every 2 weeks, and the leaves that have fallen into our front garden would fill it about 8 times I recon. And no way am I traipsing across the city to queue for ages to dump them.

So now the pavement is home to 3 large mounds of leaves, and more are forming up and down the road as people spread the word.

Ours take leaves, cat litter (if its the sawdust type and no solid waste in it), logs, the gunge from the bottom of the pond, dead bushes.... well, they took it all last week and didn't comment! ::)
