Plant Advice

I need some plants for my mother's front garden.
it gets basically no sun, though it is pretty sheltered from the elements.
My father is worse with plants than me, so they have to be hardy.

What can she plant in pots/baskets.

Ideally evergreen with flowers.

There are a lot of shade tolerant plants, but most prefer to have their roots in the soil, so can't be planted too close to a wall (rain shadow) unless there is a LOT of organic matter around their roots.

There is a hydrangea that doesn't make the huge balls of flowers, but lacey white ones. Can't think of the name offhand though.

Our days are happier when we give people a piece of our heart
rather than a piece of our mind.
