Only had the confuser a month. :'(

Phoned BT yesterday afternoon and the new router was in today's post. gratis.

Had one for years but disconnected it when I had BB probs. I'll put it back in the loop when I get a round tuit.

BT has been removing lightning isolators around the country as they can add a bot of noise and slow down "high speed" broadband. Especially far from the exchanges.

Doubt if it was only a BT issue, it killed the local area 'lectric system as well for a couple of hours.  My socket extension is allegedly surge protected but I've heard that they only work once.  It might have been hit before.

Odd. My surge protector can be reset, just by pushing the... er... "Reset" button. It's not integral to the socket, though.

Mind you, I know of someone whose kit got fried by the lightning hitting the wire from the BT socket...

Luckily, our house got rewired, just before we moved in and there're no fuses. It's all surge-protected relays. :)
