Not bad for rural.

300 being touted by Virgin here, too expensive at the moment until they go fibre to the home (FTTH).

Cable speeds are usually more consistent for speed unless they use 1 link for loads of homes. All copper slows quickly when use increases and noise spikes.

Out here, i the sticks, we're promised 8Mb. Oddly, we usually get about 10Mb. Not bad, considering we're with TalkTalk.

Got the fibre to the house 'stage 1' today.  waiting for openreach to get to stage 2.  My connection seems to have 'fallen in to a crack in the system'.  Read 'someone goofed'.

Upload speeds are shite, aren't they?

If you don't upload stuff, I don't s'pose it matters.

Exactly
I rarely upload more than text

Newer download tests show 52M odd. More in line with the advertised.  Still a damn sight better than the 800k I was getting from the 'up to 8M'

Yes my 52Mb was 8 upload as well but that has double to 16 with 75Mb, but just think when we started with dial up download was a massive 52Kb!

Our download's advertised at eight. We're lucky, coz we regularly get ten, or more. The upload's about half of that.

I still have the 'tortoise' :D.  Then again, most sites assumed that connections were slow and had content to suit.  Nowadays sites seem to expect people to have fast connections.  Even BBC videos crashed due to 'lack of bandwidth' on my 'up to 8M'.

ps had fun watching BT bods ruining drill bits trying to attach boxes to my granite built cottage  .  I told them so but......

They eventually listened to me and used a UPVC window for access.  'Know it all' tried to drill in to a spring holder and hit steel.  Eventually had a hole on the bottom of the frame. At least he used a sealant to keep the water out.
