I was awake at 2, 6 and at 7, the binmen were the final straw, so I got up.

Despite a poor night of sleep, I wasn't tired, so stayed up a little longer to watch a film. I was still woken at 6 again.

It was chilly with the light wind this morning, but this stronger wind is very humid.

I woke at 6 again, and I still have no idea what is waking me.

A neighbour went out just after 6 yesterday morning to have a word with a young woman who has a habit of arriving in her car, putting 2 wheels up on the pavement, then sitting there for extended periods with the rattling engine running.

He asked if she was waiting for someone. No response. He asked her to turn off the engine as the noise was upsetting his sleep. No response. He called the police and was told there was nothing they could do. But when he told them that she sits there with the engine running, a cop car arrived within minutes, there was a conversation, and she left.

Guess who is outside our house again right now? With the car engine running!

I set the alarm for 5:55, it woke me, and I looked outside. There was a police car a few doors down. At 5:58 the car in question drove past very slowly. A minute or so later, it had circled the block and drove past again, and then didn't return. The police car then left.

I went back to bed and slept until after half 8.

Whatever was happening, the police took notice, so I hope it's the end of the early awakenings.

Disturbed night

I wasn't woken at 6am! But I did wake a couple of hours later amid a very vivid dream.

I slept really well, but checked the clock just after 9, and couldn't stop yawning.

I was so engrossed in a BBC4 programme about sculpture that I didn't notice that it was after 1 am. I slept until after 9.
