I attended a Council recycling show and ended-up chatting with a very ignored and bored guy who is in charge of Green Garden Waste Recycling.

He explained the process, all the tests that have to be done to prevent nasties spoiling it, and how it gets used.

I was surprised to hear that very little is used by the Council, but is sold to several large companies who mix it up, balance pH, add nutrients then flog it to places like supermarkets and DIY chains under their own brands.

But all is not well. Peat is being banned, and that also affects John Innes formulas. Coir is not being exported so much as it is being used as biofuel, and transport costs have rocketed. A lot of the stuff still coming here has been washed with seawater, so has to be treated to remove the salts.

He said that 90% of all compost mixes will be 100% stuff made by people like himself. Hence the big drive to get people to hand over their green garden waste to reduce the shortfall that will happen. New things are joining the industry, such as wool and bracken, but they are not that readily available.

I told him that I have 2 compost bins at home. He looked like I'd kicked him in the nuts. "If not enough material is forthcoming, our production lines will slow down, and like many councils, we'd have no option but to start charging for emptying the green bins".

Mike

My sisters council already  charge for green bins

I woke early, but dropped-off for a little while, so I feel more awake this morning.

It was the evening before I realised it wasn't Friday. ???

The washer was making a clunking noise last night so I went to bed thinking I'd have to get a new one. I undid the filter thing this morning and pulled out 3 pound coins, a 50p, a bloody hair grip? No one uses them ? And its working fine again.
Feeling relieved 😌

Facebook is only showing blank pages, and it's all over the UK.

It tends to go in blocks around the country, usually when they roll-out updates to their codes.

Facebook has got around Adblock PLus. If you have it running, it blocks everything.

Luckily uBlock Origin ad-blocker still works.

I was woken by shouting in the street. 2 drunks!

Mike

In a couple of day AdBlock will get round it, Facebook is always trying to get round the Ad blockers
